Canadian Health Products and Brands

Wellpicks: Canadian Health Food Companies you should know about

For any foodie or health nut, the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) trade show is like heaven. Imagine a giant room filled with rows upon rows of food, coffee, tea, wine, skincare products, etc. all with health and wellness at the forefront. We spent hours wandering the maze of wellness and thought we'd share with you some of our favourite Canadian products, taking taste, natural, organic ingredients and great branding into consideration.

Naked Coconuts

While we love a good coconut oil (Naked Coconuts make a great virgin coconut oil along with an unscented option), what we love most about Vancouver-based Naked Coconuts is their Soy-Free Seasoning Sauce. This soy sauce alternative, also known as coconut aminos, is made from fermented coconut sap (though it doesn't have a strong coconut taste), and offers a salty-sweet sauce perfect for making salad dressings, cooking with or marinating. It's also raw, organic, non-GMO and gluten-free, and contains 65% less sodium than traditional soy sauce. And in case you want even more flavour, they also offer sesame ginger and chilli garlic teriyaki sauces.

  • We will throw a holiday party just to have a slice of this coconut cake from @edible_perspective! Will you be backing anything special this holiday?

  • Now this is a dessert we can get on board with! Sorry Nana, as much as we love your marshmallow salad thing, our vote is with this chocolate cheesecake from @bakeritablog

  • You know what we want this holiday? FOOD! Yep, let's forget plastic toys, useless knick knacks, and not so funny gag gifts. How about delicious food that make a difference in our environment and our world. Oh and they're flipping delicious too. We’ve tagged a few foodie bloggers because we want to know if they’d want food in their stockings too!

Cha's organics

Besides offering delicious and organic coconut milk, spices, tea and tropical fruit, what we love most about Montreal-based Cha's Organics are their principles. They are avid supporters of organic agriculture and fair trade, sourcing their spices and coconuts from biodiverse, small and medium family-owned farms. We're big fans of their spices, but also love that their coconut milk contains no fillers or preservatives which is very rare to find. We're also planning on experimenting with their jackfruit as an alternative to pulled pork, so stay tuned for that!

Beekeepers Naturals Honey

Beekeeper's Naturals

We basically love everything about Toronto-based Beekeeper's Naturals. From their branding, product quality to their company values, they are a brand we are excited to get behind. Their goal is to provide "all-natural superfoods from the hive" - great for immunity, energy and brain clarity - with an emphasis on sustainable sourcing and beekeeping. Their staple products include royal jelly (a nutrient dense, brain boosting elixir), raw honey (great for healthy baking, to balance the system and for sleep and relaxation), propolis (great for colds, coughs, sore throats and inflammation), and pollen (provides a vitamin boost, a source of protein, great for muscle recovery and energy). They also have a limited edition cacao honey that is unreal.

Green Table Foods

Green Table Foods

We try to eat fermented foods as much as we can, so were excited to discover a new brand that's local, (based out of Guelph, ON), family-run, organic, small batch, "local fair trade" (they purchase all their ingredients from surrounding organic farms), AND use glass, vs. plastic jars! Green Table Foods checks every item off our list, and their kimchi, sauerkraut and other lacto-fermented veggies are truly delicious - especially the Kale Kimchi.

  • #CHFAEast so far sooo good. #organicferments
